The gaga game craze reaches albany

SHOUT OUT TO THE GIRL SCOUTS!

Thank you to the Girl Scouts for putting in the hard work to donate a GaGa Pit to the school!  In Physical Education, all Kindergarten through 6th grade students have learned the rules to playing GaGa Ball and have enjoyed doing so! GaGa Ball has been described as a gentler variation of dodgeball. Players start with one hand touching a wall, then a player slaps or hits a ball towards other participants. Players who are struck by the ball on their knee or below are eliminated. Once eliminated, students gather around the pit to cheer for other students. The awesome thing about GaGa Ball is it’s a face-paced game and any number of people can play at a time.  It’s fun for everybody! The GaGa Pit will be moved outside until heavier amounts of snow begin and will be brought back outside in the spring. This is a great addition to our school and another way kids can be active. If your family or friends are looking to do something physical, grab a ball, come on over and use the GaGa Pit!  Soon you will find yourself going gaga for GaGa!

ALBANY STUDENTS PERFORM WELL AT PPK SECTIONALS

Nine Albany students traveled to Middleton High School to compete in the sectional round on Saturday. After last year, where no Albany student placed in the top three in any age division, this year we had a great showing with three students placing in the top 3 for their age division (about 200 total participants)

Hunter Overland 2nd Place
Jada Flannery 3rd Place
Peyton Pendergrass 3rd Place

The other students who competed also did well and a couple even placed 4th, one position away from receiving a medal. Only the top place finisher is eligible to move on to state competition but we are happy with all of our students as they all did great.

We want to congratulate all those who made it to sectionals and thank the parents for coming out to support your son or daughter.

We cannot wait to do it again next year!

MONTHLY CHALLENGE

TURKEY TROT

Students will be encouraged to BE ACTIVE over Thanksgiving break! Students will have the opportunity to complete a physical activity Turkey Trot!

Students may either print off blank hand template or trace their hand on a piece of paper with each finger representing a day off of our Thanksgiving break. On each finger, students are to write what they did to complete at least 60 minutes of physical activity for that specific day. Turkey Trots will be displayed in the elementary gymnasium.

More information about this will be given to students closer to Thanksgiving break! Below are two examples from last year!
