DECEMBER

Elementary School

Congratulations to Avary Briggs on being recognized as the elementary school physical education student of the month. Avary is an extremely hard worker in class. No matter what the unit is or the activity we are doing, she always gives 100% effort. Regardless of her success or the game outcome, she consistently demonstrates good sportsmanship and uses it as motivation in any activity that follows. Her peers view her as a helpful and respectful friend and the smile she always has, makes people feel happy around her. I truly enjoy having Avary in class and look forward to watching her continue to grow.

If you have never heard this speech before, you should take a few minutes and listen to it. very insporing and one of the best speeches ever. FITNESSGRAM RECORD BOARD

October was fitness testing month for Albany students in grades 3 through 12. Most students have completed the fall FITNESSGRAM.

FITNESSGRAM is a comprehensive health-related fitness assessment. It includes a variety of health related physical fitness tests designed to assess cardiovascular fitness (aerobic capacity), muscle strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.   The fitness items are scored using criterion-referenced standards.  These standards are age and gender specific and are established based on how fit children need to be for good health.  Through the use of these standards, a “healthy fitness zone” is created. Students completed the mile, pacer, curl-up, push-up, sit & reach, trunk lift, height, weight, & percent body fat assessments.

FAMILY TRAINING CAMP NIGHT

The Albany PTO held a family night on Friday November 6, 2015. As part of the family night, families circulated to different stations that were based on the theme of "TEAM", put on by teachers at the school.

For the 2015-2016 school year we chose "Community Playtime - It's Good for Everyone" as our NFL Fuel Up To Play 60 physical activity play and decided that hosting a family training camp would fit right in with the theme of this event. Our Family Training Camp Night was a huge success! It was such an enjoyable and productive evening getting our entire community involved in physical activity. Students and family members participated in football drills in a fun and engaging way while increasing their heart rates.

COMETS ON THE MOVE!!!

ALBANY WINS                TICKETS!

Back in October, our physical education department entered a contest through the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and the NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 program. The contest was based solely on our Fuel Up to Play 60 Back to School Kickoff Event. Mr. Adams and Mrs. Schott, along with our Fuel Up to Play 60 student team members, created and led all students in a football themed obstacle course, which included a Lambeau leap! Students also had the opportunity to take a milk mustache photo. Student team members discussed with students the importance of being active and making healthy food choices.

Albany School District was selected as one of six school winners in Wisconsin and have received 6 tickets to the December 13th Green Bay Packers Game at Lambeau Field. The tickets include entry to the MVP Deck for complimentary food, soda and water throughout the game. Fuel Up to Play 60 students will be escorted on to the sidelines of the field for recognition before the game starts. Be on the lookout for Albany students when the Green Bay Packers play the Dallas Cowboys in Lambeau Field on December 13th.

  • A medium-size carrot has 25 calories, 6 grams of carbs, and 2 grams of fiber. The veggie is an excellent source of vitamin A, providing more than 200% of your daily requirement in just one carrot. Carrots are loaded with beta-carotene, a natural chemical that the body changes into vitamin A. The deeper orange the carrot, the more beta-carotene you’re getting.

  • The benefits of exercise are more than just for weight management. Exercise also combats stress, promotes better sleep, and activates the immune system.
