ALBANY STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Middle School

Congratulations to Gage Roth on being recognized as the middle school physical education student of the month.  Gage is and has always been such a joy to have in class.  He understands the importance of being physically active and works his hardest each and every time I see him in class.  Although running is his greatest strength, his skills in all areas are consistently impressive.  I look forward to seeing what sports Gage chooses to participate in as he continues through his middle and high school years. Whichever path he takes, I know Gage will be sucessful and have fun doing so.

High School

Congratulations to Emily Hauri on being recognized as the high school physical education student of the month. Emily's ability to think strategically makes her one of the quickest and smart players in the game.  She is able to easily understand concepts and advantages that put her team in the best position to win.  Emily is also a very determined individual.  When she puts her mind to something, she usually will finish it.  Whether it's a skill learned in physical education class or a math problem in Mr. Schwab's class, she will not give up until she understand it.  It's been a pleasure to work with Emily these last two years and we wish her the best as she continues her education at UW-Lacrosse.

FITNESSGRAM RECORD BOARD

October was fitness testing month for Albany students in grades 3 through 12. Most students have completed the fall FITNESSGRAM.

FITNESSGRAM is a comprehensive health-related fitness assessment. It includes a variety of health related physical fitness tests designed to assess cardiovascular fitness (aerobic capacity), muscle strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.   The fitness items are scored using criterion-referenced standards.  These standards are age and gender specific and are established based on how fit children need to be for good health.  Through the use of these standards, a “healthy fitness zone” is created. Students completed the mile, pacer, curl-up, push-up, sit & reach, trunk lift, height, weight, & percent body fat assessments.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

Albany is filled with Heart Heroes!  We are proud to announce that Albany students raised $4,610.60 for the American Heart Association!!

On Friday, March 18th all K - 6th grade students participated in and completed their Jump Rope For Heart event! Sixth grade students were team leaders and each had a team of eight or nine students in various grades. It was such a neat event to watch younger elementary students interact with older students and vice versa. Students took turns on their team jumping with a total group time jumping of 45 minutes. The Jump Rope For Heart event also included an optional girl, boy, and teacher jump off competition.  When the 45 minutes concluded, there were plenty of sweaty, red-faced students who had their hearts beating fast!

We are so proud of our students for learning how to stay healthy and helping others by raising money for the American Heart Association.  Thank you to all family and friends for your donations and support.  We truly appreciate families helping our school join others to wipe out heart disease.

If your son or daughter raised enough donations to receive a thank-you gift from the American Heart Association, expect them to receive the gifts in approximately 2-4 weeks.

ELEMENTARY School

Congratulations to Tatum Doescher on being recognized as the elementary school physical education student of the month. Tatum's positive outlook and fun personality is so contagious in physical education.  Every time she runs into the gym, she's just so excited!  Tatum really stood out in our roller skating unit.  She came in fearless and ready for the challenge of learning a brand new skill. Because of her bravery, by the end of our skating unit, she was skating way ahead of her years.  I'm excited to have the opportunity to teach Tatum for the next few years as she moves throughout elementary and early middle school years.

Tyler has been a teacher's aide with my 5th grade physical education classes this school year. I have been thoroughly impressed with his leadership and teaching abilities. My 5th grade students respect him and enjoy having him in class. Tyler is an excellent role model by showing my students the importance of respect and hard work. My 5th grade students and I are proud of his athletic accomplishments and wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors.
